A note on Riverhead: junior Michael Smith will be wearing No. 52 today instead of his regular No. 72. Apparently he left his jersey locked in the high school, so he needed to find a new jersey.
Introductions have just started here at Stony Brook University for the Division II Long Island championship. The crowd here thus far is heavily Riverhead based. It looks like Elmont fans don't travel very well so Riverhead should have the home field advantage.
The weather here is much better than last week's bitter cold. Walking up to the press box one guy compared it to a summer day. That's what it feels like compared to last Saturday. The warmer weather should help both offenses. I would imagine Miguel Maysonet won't carry 47 times today.
A quick note on the previous L.I. title games at Hofstra yesterday. Suffolk is 2-0 so far after Connetquot won Division I against Freeport and Sayville won Division III against Bethpage. Both were good games. Suffolk swept the title games last year and has now won the last six going into today. The last Nassau team to win was Roosevelt against Mount Sinai in Division IV in 2006. Lawrence also upset Bellport that year in D-II.
The National Anthem was just completed so we're waiting for coin toss.
The captains for Riverhead, Maysonet, Tyler Gilliam, Andrew Smith and Tim Velys are out for coin toss. Riverhead wins the toss and will receive at the south end zone.
FIRST QUARTER
For Elmont Ahkeel Rodney will kick off and it's away. Good kick to the 5-yard line is returned by Greg Meyer to the 25.
1-10 at 25 E: A reverse to Rasheen Moore goes for a first down up the left sideline to Riverhead's 46.
1-10 at 46: Maysonet up the middle to the 47.
2-3 at 47: Maysonet run for a first down.
1-10 at 41: Elmont: Maysonet again up the middle picks up a couple.
2-6 at 37: Maysonet with a run right gets to the 35 and Riverhead faces its first third down.
3-4 at 35: Velys pass right t Tim Fitzgerald is good for a first down.
1-10 at 29: Maysonet a run up the middle to the 20
2-1 at 20: Maysonet another first down run
1-10 at 14: Velys was under pressure, avoided a sack but had his pass knocked down at the line.
2-10 at 14: Maysonet with a nice run left gets close to the first down, but just short.
3-1 at 5: Maysonet right up the gut TOUCHDOWN.
With 9:05 left in the first, Riverhead takes a 6-0 lead. The extra point attempt is no good when it hits the right upright.
The drive spanned 11 plays and 2:55 and 75 yards.

Travis Walker kicks off for Riverhead and Justin Mayers returns it to the Elmont 46.

1-10 at 48: Maysonet FUMBLES, but Riverhead recovers. It looked at first like Elmot recovered but Riverhead got it on the bottom of the pile
2-4 at 46: Pass to Fitzgerald right sideline is good for first down.

2-5 at 36: Velys scrambles right but can't find a man open and throws it away.
3-5 at 36: Maysonet finds a huge hole right to pick up a first down. Elmont can't stop Maysonet right now.

2-5 at 19: Maysonet again with the rush to the 12.
1-10 at 12: Maysonet up the gut gets a couple.
2-7 at 9: Maysonet is tripped up just shy of the end zone. He rolled in but the refs ruled he was down just short.
1-goal at 1: Maysonet up the gut TOUCHDOWN with 4:51 left. Riverhead takes a 12-0 lead.
Two-Point conversion is GOOD. Greg Meyer an easy run in and Riverhead takes a 14-0 lead.

1-15 at 33: A beautiful pass down the right sideline to Fitzgerald is good for a TOUCHDOWN with 4:39 left. Riverhead storms to a 20-0 lead. The extra point is no good, but the Blue Waves are dominating the action right now and are well on their way to their first Long Island championship.
It was 12 seconds in between touchdowns for Riverhead. WOW.
Riverhead tries another onside kick but this time Elmont recovers. But is it too late?

4-4 at 49: FAKE PUNT. Direct snap to Moore is good for a Riverhead first down.

1-goal at 9: Meyer runs left untouched for the TOUCHDOWN with 2:25 left. Extra point is good and now it's 35-0.
Note: The most points scored in a D-II L.I. title game is 44. That was by Bellport in 1997. The most in any title game is 55 by Sayville in 2004. Riverhead might be able to equal or surpass that if it wants. We'll see what the second half brings. But this one is OVER. Riverhead in complete control.
A big return by Myers gets into Riverhead territory. But a flag is down and the run is coming back.
